Research
Learning (ML)
Machine learning is a fascinating sub-field of AI and is heavily used for enterprise applications (such as business intelligence and analytics), effective web search, robotics, smart cities and understanding of the human genome. Machine learning researchers working at MBZUAI investigate the development of algorithms which can improve automated cognition, perception and action with experience by observations. The researchers at MBZUAI’s machine learning department focus on both fundamental and applied research in machine learning. Our students, supervised by our world class faculty, get unique hands-on experience by developing and evaluating algorithms on complex real datasets.
Vision (CV)
Researchers working in the field of computer vision develops algorithms which automatically analyze visual data to extract useful knowledge. Our researchers work across multiple sub-areas of computer vision, including but not limited to facial and object recognition, object detection, counting and segmentation, image and video captioning, bio-metric security, medical imaging, image colorization and enhancement, object tracking, action recognition and video understanding. Computer vision has important applications in augmented and virtual reality, autonomous cars, service robots, bio-metrics and forensics, remote sensing and smart cities.
Processing (NLP)
Our academics working in the field of NLP focus on system development, which allows computers to communicate with people using everyday language. They investigate the development of systems that convert information from the computer database into readable or audible human language and vice versa. These systems also enable sophisticated tasks such as inter-language translation, semantic understanding, text summarization, and holding a dialog. Some of the core applications of NLP algorithms include interactive voice response applications, automated translators, digital personal assistants (e.g. Siri, Cortana, Alexa), chatbots, and smart word processors.

MBZUAI believes that partnerships are necessary to enable it to perform its various activities with excellence. Partnerships could be academic, focusing on education and research, or they could be operational, focusing on the support functions that are necessary for operating the University.

Library
The MBZUAI Library is a gateway to a wide range of physical and electronic resources and services, collated and designed to support the learning, teaching, and information needs of the University’s academic programs, and scholarly and research interests.
Located in the Knowledge Center building, the Library provides spaces for engagement between faculty and students, complemented by quiet areas for concentration and contemplation. Comfortable reading areas and study rooms create a productive atmosphere for research.
